Certification of Recreational Crafts and Personal Watercrafts

As a notified body, we provide comprehensive services in the field of conformity assessment and certification of recreational craft and personal watercraft in accordance with the RCD (Recreational Craft Directive). We ensure the entire process leading to CE marking.

The assessment applies to recreational craft with a length of 2.5 m to 24 m intended for sport and leisure purposes, personal watercraft (PWC), as well as inboard and outboard engines with regard to exhaust emissions and noise, and selected components listed in Annex II (e.g. fuel tanks, hoses and steering systems).

Conformity Assessment and CE Marking

The purpose of CE marking is to confirm that a product meets the essential requirements of European legislation regarding safety, health protection, environmental protection, and user protection.

The conformity assessment process verifies that the craft, selected component, or engine:

  • is safe for users and the environment
  • is designed and manufactured in accordance with the applicable directive
  • complies with relevant technical standards

CE marking also allows the free movement of products within the EU market without the need for additional national approvals.

Who needs this service

This service is relevant for anyone placing recreational craft or related products on the EU market:

  • Manufacturers of recreational craft and personal watercraft – during the development phase or before placing the product on the EU market
  • Importers of craft from outside the EU – when placing craft on the European market (e.g. for resale)
  • Owners of craft (private import) – when importing a craft for personal use and registering it in the EU
  • Manufacturers or suppliers of selected components – for assessment of components according to Annex II of Directive 2013/53/EU

Importing a boat from outside the EU

When importing a craft without CE marking, a Post-Construction Assessment (PCA) must be carried out, during which the Czechoslovak Lloyd team verifies compliance with the requirements of Directive 2013/53/EU. Thanks to our extensive experience from numerous PCA projects, we are a reliable partner to guide you through the entire process.

All you need to do is provide basic information about the craft, available technical documentation, and access to the craft. We take care of everything else — from assessment to arranging the necessary testing.
